I'm a US citizien and my husband and I applied for his spouse green card. USCIS recieved the I-130 in April and mailed us the code. We check every day and it still says "Initial Review." We have seen that spouse Green Card times have been reduced to about 5 months on average, which means I think they should be calling us any day now for the interveiw at the US Embassy here in Spain. So is it risky to buy plane tickets to go on vacation this summer? We'd hate to miss our interview, but if it's an average of 5 months, the interview will probably be this summer. Can it be postponed? When do they notify you about the interview and how far in advance? Thank you so much!

Unless you applied with DCF, or the "April" you mentioned is April 2012, the interview almost certainly won't be as soon as this year's summer. It probably won't happen anytime this year.

The I-130 is averaging about 5 months, but after I-130 approval the case must be forwarded to the consulate and then arrangements must be made for the final procedures and paperwork and interview. Those additional steps after I-130 approval will add about 3-6 months to the overall timeline. The I-130 was filed in April, so expect the interview to be in the last quarter of this year or the first half of next year.

Thank you

Thank you for your reply. Yes I meant April 2013. It's too bad this process is so slow but at least now I know we can go on vacation.
