Friends,
My wife has applied her I-485 as a dependant. Going by the backlog, it looks like EAD will take 5 months. We intend to get a Interim EAD after 3 months, But can we apply SSN for her using Interim EAD(She is on a H4, she doesn't have a SSN now).

Please Advise.

Yes, I think so. I know a case they applied with interim, but SSA did not have immigration record for spouse to give SSN. So SSA told them it will take 12weeks and they need to verify with CIS. I do not know whether they got it or not after 12 weeks.

In 2002, I had similar experience (for my wife with actual EAD, not interim) with SSA, but SSN came in about 6 weeks.

My wife applied with interim EAD and SSA told her to wait 8 weeks. They had to check with cis as the info wasn't updated in the system. But got the card in 4 weeks.
