Can the renunciation of Indian citizenship and application for India entry visa be done parallely?

Hi,

I am taking my oath on August 06th. I need to travel to India no later than Aug 24th. I know that I can get my Amercian passport within a day or two.

The next steps are what I am not sure about. Can I apply for my Indian citizenship renunciation and India entry visa parallely (on the same day) as soon as I get my American passport? I guess I need to take an appointment with the Indian Consulate for a quick turn around. Would anybody throw light on the duration that it takes for the renunciation and India entry visa steps?

Also would it make a difference if I went to the NewYork Consulate versus the San Francisco consulate. I would prefer going to the NY consulate

I am not even trying to get my OCI now since I do not want to take the chance of getting delayed. Also I am not sure if there is an expedited OCI process.

Normally renunciation takes 2 weeks. You could speak or email the consulate they will be in a better position to advise.

You cannot choose the consulate NYC or SFO. It is decided by the geographical location of your residence. Each consulate has earmarked jurisdiction.
