I know the approval notice usually comes a couple of days before the actual card does. My wife found her OPT approval notice from a couple of years ago and I found the language of the document to be interesting. The approval notice basically said that it is not evidence of employment authorization or a visa, but the notice could be used in conjunction with a document establishing identity for employment authorization until the card is received but no later then 30 days from when the notice was issued. She did get the card in the mail a couple of days later.
So, when we get the GC approval notice can it be used as proof of status and proof of authorized employment in the US until the card is received? I know you can't travel on it and in order to travel a stamp in the passport would have to be received.
