I am a F1 phd student from Pakistan and am subject to Special Registeration procedures. I recently have a paper accepted in a conference in Canada which will happen in June'05. However, my US visa expires in May'05. I wish to attend the conference as that will be helpful for my career. The university international student office has told me of a "automatic visa revalidation" rule which allows students (F1) to visit Canada and return even on an expired US visa provided the stay is less than 30days and they do not travel outside Canada, or try to apply for a new US visa. I want to be sure that people on NSEERS can use this rule. I was told that only nationals from 7 countries cannot use it, which does not include Pakistan. It would be nice if I can get some feedback from people who have used this rule and any pointers about what should I keep in mind before trying to count on automatic revalidation for rentry to US on an expired visa.
