Can somebody help me (just spoke with IIO)

My I-485 was approved on December 31 2001 but my wife is still not approved (I am the primary applicant).

I just got off the phone with an NSC information officer. She told me that my wife\'s I-485 case is "with an officer".

What does it mean when it is with an officer? How long does it take after a case has been assigned to an officer?
