CAN Passport expiring with valid TN

Hi, my current Canadian passport will expire in a few months, but my TN status is valid for another year or so. I’ve already applied for a new passport. When I fly back into the U.S., will my existing TN simply be carried over to the new passport? Can someone confirm?

Thanks.

Yes, your TN status remains valid. When traveling, carry both your old passport with the valid TN and your new passport.

Lucky you- when my passport was near expiry, the officer refused to give me TN status longer than the expiry date.

Grant, that is normal procedure. However, once you renew passport, the remainder of your original request should be granted on your next crossing. Any refusal to do this is the guard being a jerk.

so basically this time when i fly back in my i94 was issued only till my passpory expiry date. Assuming when i get my new passport shortly the next time they would just stamp till my orginal TN stamp date.

so i got my new passport but at the port of entry the officer said they updated my i94 with the new date, but when i checked at home it was not updated and it had the old dates. What do i need to do? seems like it was not updated and there could be an error..

Did they at least stamp your passport?

You could go for deferred inspection at a local DHS office, with your documentation and old/new passports,
