Can L2 Visa Holder work with SSN with no EAD

HI,

I am a L2 visa holder and have SSN. I confirmed with SSN office about the work eligibility on L2 visa.

Recently, I came to know that EAD is a must document to work in USA so I applied for this also.

But right now as I dont have EAD and have only SSN, am I working legally or is there anything wrong with my status?

Also, I am going to apply H1b this year. Can there be any problem in my H1 approval?

You are not authorized to work until you receive your EAD. The SSN in and of itself is not employment authorization. I urge you to refrain from working before getting your EAD - it is employment without authorization and may have negative impact on your H-1B or other future immigration filings.
