Can L1 holder go on leave without pay

I am a L1 visa holder. I would like to go on a 8 month leave without pay due to personal reasons.

Can I do this legally and still remain in the USA since I am still employed with the company?
 
For the benefit of others who might have this question, Rajiv Khanna answered this question. There is no provision in the law for L1 visa holders to go on leave without pay for such extended periods of time. So, this will not be possible.
