I went to stamping in DETROIT lat month..as my pass port is xpiring next june they said, they can NOTt stamp my PP, but they stamped on I-94 kind of card with my picture...which is as good as stamping in the pp. Now I am planning to renew my passport, can I go the the DETROIT office again for stamping in the New Passport?

You can give that a try, though the card they gave should be good enough.
You probably will get your card by the time the passport is renewed.

If you have stamped card, why do you to get stamped anyway? Staple with your new passport just like I-94.

No they will not stamp the passport again. You will need to use the card they gave you for entry into the US. Besides your plastic card will be on its way shortly, in which case you don't have to worry about the stamp. So why spend a morning waiting in queue only to be rejected?

I feel the only reason they do not want to stamp your expiring passport is to avoid you coming back with the new passport to get stamped.
You should just have your card and wait for the actual GC or for extension of the stamping ??????
