Dear all,
I am currently a PhD student in US. I have a job offer for a full time permanent employment with a very good company. They are filling my H1B on April 1st 2007.
I want to start working as early as possible. I spoke to immigration advisers at my university and they told that I can join the co. as full time employee (NOT intern) in May 2007 using CPT and then shift to H1B once it is effective (after October 1st). I also know one another PhD student in my university, who is working as a full time employee (NOT intern) for a company being on CPT.
My question is:
If I join the company using CPT and then move to H1B, in that case my start date of employment will be much earlier that my H1B effective date.
1. Is this legal? I saw at some universities websites clearly mentioned that - you can not join a full time permanent employment being on CPT. However, my university (International student and CTP office) is fine with this.
2. If I do this, will it cause any issues in future, specially in Green Card/Citizenship processing?
Do you people see any issues with this approach.
I am thinking long term because I do NOT plan to leave this company till I get Green Card.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
- Gee
