Next week I will find out wether a company will hire me but I just learned that he H1-B cap was reached and if they want me I will have to wait until April/October of next year which of course will not be an option for the company. About 2 years ago I had an internship with this same company and I used a J-1 visa for the duration of my internship. Is it possible to work for the company on a temporary basis with a J-1 (It's been a year since I finished graduate school) and then request an H1-B? I was told the J-1 has a validity of 18 months or so and I used it only for 3 months but don't know if they payed for the whole term or just the 3 months.
I would really appreciate any advice since it is very likely that I will get offered the job and I would like if the J-1 is an option.
If it is would I have to request a new J-1 and how long does it generally take?
I live in Europe and am under the visa waiver program.
Waiting anxiously for a response..
thank you,
Ghl
