Hi,

A friend of mine got her AP approved few days back. But, she doesn't have the EAD yet. Can she travel out of country and come back with just the AP approved?

Thanks,
Niti.

The USCIS Inspector at the port of entry will not ask your friend for EAD. It will have no relevance to her traveling abroad. However, it may be a good idea for your friend to take either a copy or the original I-485 receipt along with AP.

One cavaet here - make sure your friend never overstayed her visa while she was in the U.S. I read somewhere in murthy.com that even with an approved AP, one is subject to be barred from entering the U.S. if he/she has overstayed for 180 days or more (check the date because I am not sure).

I can't point you to the exact link, but Rajiv and Murthy both comment on this somewhere in their website.
