If you were required to get a visa to go to Canada before you got your AP, you still need to get a visa to go to Canada after you get the AP. Your AP is only for you get back to the states.
You may or may not require a visa for canadian visit depending on your nationality. Check out the Canadian consulate website for more information. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.html
