Travel overseas possible?

Hello,

I have a question about traveling overseas which I appreciate your clarification. I have some family issue which requires me to travel overseas in the next two months. The trip will be around 20 days.

The question I have is, shall I make the travel BEFORE submitting N400 or AFTER?

The N400 instruction states that I need to reside in the same district/state for 3 months before submitting N400. Does that mean I can NOT leave the US in the 3 months before submitting N400? If I do travel overseas, does that mean I have to stay in the US for 3 months after I come back and before I can submit N400?

Or, shall I arrange the trip to be after I submit N400? In that case, I will make sure I can attend the FP, but can I travel overseas the other days between N400 submission and interview? Is there going to be any negative impact for the interview?

Thank you very much! I am worried about this problem.

Yes you can travel outside the USA after submitting the N-400. However, the same guidelines apply regarding time inside the USA as before. So if you are close to exceeding maximum days outside the USA, then travel is not advised. In any case you will need to submit revised data to at the time of the interview regarding your additional time outside the USA. If you travel outside the USA between your interview and your oath, then same guidelines apply about amount of time.
