I got my GC on July 19, 2001. I am planning to apply for citizenship on April 20. I want to travel to Paris to spend time with a friend, who lives there from May 15-25. Would this pose a problem? Just want to make sure. Approximately, when would I get a notification for finger prints? Would that notice for a particular date? I do not want to miss any important papers.

I also take this oppurtunity to explain some stupid thing (shop lifting incident) I have done in the past. Hope that does not affect my citizenship. 3 years ago, I was shopping in a grocerystore, I was talking on the phone, I forgot that I put in a chocolate bar in my pocket and did not pay for it. Secuirty stopped me, after I paid for other things. Took a picture of me, asked me to sign explain a piece of paper. He asked me never come back to the store. If I come back, they would turn me to police. I think they also may have to put my picture in the store for display for somewhere. I am not sure. I was so embarassed.

Ofcourse, I never went to back to the store and never to put Reeses chocolate bar in to my pocket. Would this have been reported? Should this be something I should worry about? thoughts?

Yes you can. I travelled overseas twice during the course of my citizenship application for similar lengths of time. You just have to ensure that the notice to appear for fingerprinting is received by someone you trust and who can in turn communicate this to you in a timely fashion. If it so happens that your fingerprint appointment occurs while you're abroad, you can always reschedule or change your travel plans.

The interview is a different issue because it is crucial that you are there (rescheduling is a bit trickier, so you will likely have to change your travel plans if need be), but then I doubt that your interview will be scheduled within that time frame.

thank you for quick reply. Usually what is the time frame ( 1 month? 3 months ..) notice for finger printing is sent? Is it after name check? or after immediately applying for citizen ship.

How far in advance, finger is sent? Would i sent a notice in May for June or just a week in advance.

thanks for the replies.

leaving tommorrow for 2 weeks

I sent-in N-400 application Feb 15th. I have not gotton any FP notice yet. For next 2 weeks, I will be out of country.

What should I do now? What if, I get the FP notice while I am way. Usually when FP notice in sent, how much time (advance notice) is given? For example, if I get a FP notice next week, would the appointment be the following week. Then I will be missing the appointment.

Please advise.

Any FP re-scheduling experience?

Can I ask my friend to check my mails and if I get the notice, can I ask her to sent the reply letter asking for re-schedule the appointment. Is it not recommended? Re-scheduling the finger printing affecting times a lot? I guess I have to give all my hotel details and check emails carefully so that I can monitor the status abroad?
