Can I switch to a different team immediately after GC approval?

Same company, but different team and different location. Also, the position could be different. Is this okay? Or is this considered not safe as well?

If I have to move to a different company, is it only safe to do this after getting the citizenship (7 years from GC approval, roughly)? That seems like an aweful lot of time.

Has anyone known of someone who had their GC revoked because they switched their job?

I wish I knew the answer to this one(correctly and surely). :) But IMHO, it should not be a problem . Cant you not consult your lawyer or find one who is reputed and ask him/her the same question?
Whatever you find, please post it here, as it looks like something which will benefit a lot of us.

Generally, 6 months to 1 year after obtaining the green card is a safe time period to change employment. Failure to stay at the sponsoring employer may result in problems at the naturalization stage!"

Shouldn't it also say that the employee should be performing the same *job* responsibilities and at the *same location* as stated on the LC for 6 months? If you just keep talking about 6 months stay with the employer, like a broken record, why not add the same job responsibility and location clause too? You didn't think about that or didn't realize that it will be a problem?

The new job description doesn't match the LC anymore, making the whole process invalid.
So, the *new* rule of thumb should be:

From the 485 approval date, stay with the employer for at least 6 months on the same job (as mentioned in LC) and at the same location. If you don't, then you are ?!?

Yeah my LC says "Unforeseen Location", which pretty much means i could be working anywhere in the US.

I would say the following :

Quit Time After GC & chance of USCIS issue

< 1 week : 2%

< 1 month : 1%

2 months : 0.5%

3 months : 0.2%

6 months : 0.05%

1 year : 0%

Hows that?!

Well, I changed jobs after 1 year, so I obviously consider that safe ;) As for the other numbers, no idea.
Oh, my goodness gracious! JoeF has no idea on the *other numbers*. How can that be possible? Is it even possible? Man-o-man! Something is NOT right! Maybe, Friday has something to do with it? Hmmm...

thanks, guys! one thing though-

if the labor cert. was filed quite generically, say, stating that you could be working in several different technologies, etc., why is it a problem to switch to a different team?

also, how does the location matter? what if I were to work for the same team but in an entirely different location?

if one can switch to a different location even before I-485 was approved, I wonder why you can't do that once it is approved.

If the LC is worded generously, then I *assume* it should be okay unless the great JoeF thinks otherwise!

Well, the approved LC is for a particular job at a particular location and that's why it matters... That's the reason why it's filed in the state as opposed to a federal agency. Some consulting companies specify various locations too...

I'm still not clear. What is the consensus so far for these cases:

i. Same company, same team, different location: Is this okay?
ii. Same company, different team, doesn't conflict with LC's job description: Is this okay?
iii. Different company, similar job profile: Is this okay?
iv. Same company, different job profile: ?
v. Different company, different profile: Is this the same as (iv) in which case it is safe to wait for an year.

Thanks!

Hi Friends,
I know that it is safe to be with employer for 6 months after your 485 is approved. I wanted to know real time scenarios for this.
Did any of you change employer as soon as your 485 has been approved, like within 4 months ? Did any of face problem with such a situation.
What are the possible problems you can encounter. If you are not thinking about citizenship is this a big issue to change employer within 6 months of your approval?
If you have encountered such thread before, please pass that link there.
How would USCIS will come to know that you have changed after the passport stamping, Is it like they will send postal mail asking for explanation, why you have changed your job?
Can you please give any of your experiences on this context.
In real time, did any body of you encounter such problem or this is more or less speculation.
Thanks in Advance.

Again I am asking experience from people who directly or indirectly encountered this problem.
