Can I leave without a GC ?

I was approved for a Green Card at my Interview and confirmed my mail address had not chaged with the officer. I asked him to stamp my passport , he said it was not nessasary.
My online status says the post office could not deliver my GC and was returned on March 1. I am supposed to leave the country on the 7 of march 06.
Can I leave without the card and have someone mail it to me outside the country? I will have it with me on the way back

Get infopass, go to your DO and get an I-551 right away as there may be a possibility that you might not get your actual GC in time before you plan to return to the US.

DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT YOUR I-551.
