Can I leave US after L2-EAD finger printing is done , but EAD is yet to be approved?

My spouse is in L1 and I'm in L2 VSA. I have applied for an EAD. My finger printing will be done next week. I'm planning to go back to my home country for a couple of months after the biometrics is done and want to come back after the EAD is approved. Will there be a problem with this? A friend told me that when I go back, I'll have to surrender the I-94 and that will invalidate my EAD application, if the EAD is not approved by then. Since I'm planning to leave US only 2-3 days after my finger printing is done, my EAD won't have been approved by then. Will my travel out of US impact my EAD application? Could you please clarify this?
