Can I leave U.S for Canada on vacation with passport stamping?

Hi All,
I just want to know after I get my passport stamped (not yet receive the plastic card), can I directly fly to Toronto for vacation?
As far as I know, as a GreenCard holder, we don't need visa to Canada for travel. How about I just get passport stamping?
