hi,
can anyone tell me if i can start residency with an EAD...i'm on H4 and have an EAD in lieu of my spouse's pending 485...we were expecting GC this year but now due to retrogression it doesn't seem possible for don't know how long...i don't have enough time now to fulfill requirements for H1..
can i apply just with EAD?

Ead

I did 3 years of residency and 2 years of fellowship on EAD (J2). My program was fine with it. It is perfectly legal. However, my cousin's program co-ordinator was ill-informed, ignorant, mean and arrogant and she didn't let her join residency on EAD. Even the lawyer said she could sue them for not letting her start resiedncy on a perfectly legal document (i.e. EAD).

I think there is a box 'other' on ERAS and you put EAD there.

They are actually not allowed to discriminate against you based on the EAD (something in the IRCA). There is a whole special prosecutors office at the justice department to pursue cases of employment discrimination against legal immigrants (which you are by virtue of an I485/EAD).

I knew people who started on EAD based on marriage. 2 years later they just switched to the PR card.

Somebody here had posted that the J2 EAD can only be obtained for 4 years total. I had never heard about this, but I wouldn't put it beyond the dimwits at CIS to introduce such a regulation.

It sounds like you did 5 years on J2 EAD, did you run into something like that ?
