Hi all,
I am glad that I found this site.
I am an international undergraduate (sophomore) student in the US and I will be staying on my campus during summer to work and to take classes.
I have a little sister who is 14 and I would like to invite her to spend the summer with me.I would teach her English and some other things about American culture during her stay. She will just come to have a hand on experience of the American culture and to immerse herself in an English speaking community.I will cover her room and board. My guess is that she will need a 3 months tourist visa.
I am here on an Academic scholarship so I have no interest in smuggling her here to make her stay illegally. We also don't have any relatives in the US if that can help. I am the first and only person in my family who has been in the US. I came here alone since 11th grade but I always return home to visit my family during summer.
Our family is not rich so I am afraid that they might denied her the visa but I am culturally and emotionally very much tied to my country because my entire family is back home.
Do you think that It will be hard for her to get a visa? What will I need to send to the consulate and to her to support her application? Would it be ok if I write to the consul that my summer trip back home is a proof that I am attached to my family and so is my sister, therefore, she will return home. I was also thinking about pointing out that I am on a good scholarship and it wouldn't worth losing it by making my little sister stay here illegally.
Please help me with any advice?
Has any of you invited friends or family while they were on a F1 visa?
