Can I have authority to sign checks for C-Corp while on H1B ?

I am on H1B - currently in the 4th year. I and my friend (GC holder) are going to open a C-Corporation together. He has his own job too.

Question : When we open the bank account can I act as the person with the authority to sign the checks ? Note that I and my friend both will be Directors (I will not be an officer of company or an employee). Does authority to sign check amount to violation of H1B ? I will not be working for the company in any way.

Any info on this will be of help.
 
The question that we are facing right now is who should give the name when we open the bank account. I would like to do that if I do not violate H1B by doing so. If not my other partner will have to do it.

Actual people who operate will be different - my name will appear as the person who is owning the account with right to sign.
