Can I go to Houston Consulate and drop my passports ?

My online OCI status is saying that 'Documents received at Houston on 24 th April' after OCI is granted. But I did not get any email from them.

Can I go and submit my passports. So far it took around 3 months.

Let me know.

Yes. If the status says "Docs received at <consulate>", go ahead and send your passports (irrespective of whether you get email or not).

As said above, you can drop the passports there. They may or may not send mail.

How long it took for them to send you ack? Good for you that whole process took only 3 months. For me, it is more than 2 months and still no ack. :( Guess I am looking at 7-8 months processing time !!!
 
My timeline so far

took me 2 months for acknowledgement.

OCI application delivered by USPS: 01/26/2008
OCI Acknowledgement date: 03/26/2008
OCI Granted: 04/12/2008
Documents despatched from Delhi: 04/17/2008
Documents received at Houston: 04/24/2008
Passports submitted by person: 04/29/2008
Getting back passports and OCI: Waiting
 
Can you personally go to Houston and get your US passport stamped and get OCI on the same day once your OCI application is approved or you have to still wait few days. Just wondering how long it takes to get this done when you personally visit houston or when you send via mail.

Also, can a person get the passport stamping done for his wife also or both need to personally visit the consulate.

As it say on the Houston website, you can go in person once you get the email or your online status says that docs have reached from Delhi. You can get it stamped in one day (Drop in the morning, pick up by 4 PM) One person can collect for all family members.
Sending via mail takes time. Website says 10-15 business days to get the stamped passport back (So about 3 weeks)
