I am planning to apply for GC through my spouse(US citizen). Can I go for medical without the receipt # , so that I can send the medical report along with my application form.(or should I file for GC and wait for their response for medical)Any thoughts on this will be highly appreciated..

thanks

This is for my friend

We did our medical and sent it in when we applied we didn't wait for anything from uscis. If you send it in wth your initial package that seems to keep your case moving faster than waiting for an RFE for your medical

You MUST send it with the I-485 application form, therefore, you are allowed to take the medical exam without the receipt number (they will use your passport/visa/alien number or whatever they can get).

How much the medical exam is? (average)
also, at the doctors office do they know what to fill? . I meant the form that must be along wiht the I-485 form

As far as i know,i have to go to the uscis designated civil surgeon in your area and usually they do have the form to be filled out or to be on the safe side, you could also download the I-693 forms from the uscis website.Hope this helps.

It depends on how "updated" your shots/vaccines record is and how many tests you will have to take.

Call in advance, ask what you need to get done and visit your local health department, they will administer the tests and shots for A LOT CHEAPER.

Thanks for the information! I did not have clu about the med examn!.. Another questions. If my primary doctor on my insurance is listed on the USC list, can I have that exam thru my health insurance? I know that's an specific question but probably somebody have done it and want to share..
thanks in advance

That is entirely dependent on your insurance. In most cases, it will not be covered since the exam is not considered a "medical necessity" - however parts of it could be covered if you have a "wellness" rider or something like that, that will include wellness visits and tests. They may include some tests, while explicitly exclude certain tests from coverage.

However, before you call the insurance company and ask - look up what doctors you even have to chose from. Then if necessary - call your insurance company and ask them the specific questions.

Health Insurance will not pay for I-693..

David,

Absolutely NOT!!! Drs certified by USCIS to offer this medical actually use this as a cash cow, because all insurance companies will deny to pay for this type of medical service.... Your PCP could be certified...but he or she is going to demand $$$ from you, not through the insurance co. However, if he or she tells you that you should pay, and claim the reimbursement through your health insurance, get the hell out of his/her office and run....:)

I mean, even if you were sitting on a bed naked waiting for the examination, because your health insurance is going to nicely deny your medical claim for I-693... he or she is lying... It is possible that your health insurance can cover the chest X-ray for TB, because hey paid for mine......:( Again, check with your provider...;)

My PCP was certified to do medical by USCIS, but he wanted about $390.00 and I told him that he should shove it... I did it at my own expense for about $100 or so... don't remember the exact cost.... You best bet is to go and do it as a local medical facility which could charge less than private drs. In VA, there is a facility which charges about $75.00 for the entire I-693 medical...

aWWW $390 that's a lot!! I see why you told him that! 75 sounds rasonable..

Now I have another question. That exam has a expiration day? In other words. I dont know yet when I am going to be able to file the I-485. could be next 2 weeks or in the next year (who knows). let's see I do that exam today. I am going to be able to use that after 1 year?

Dav,

Unless you will be filing next year on 10/04/2007... then your medical can be done now and once you are ready to file, just send shoot them straight to Chicago lockbox.;) It is good for a year I think...

Advise: since they will do a skin test-which requires an observation of 48 hours, then you can go on a Monday, and go back for the results on Wednesday. If you go on Thursday, unless that Dr is open on Saturday, you will need to wait to go for the results on Monday, which will be three days. Who knows what the size of the skin test mark will be like? For all we know, it can be the size of a soccerball....:D:D
