Can I get stamping at a different service center

Hi

My 485 has been approved by VSC. (ND Jan-01, RD, Jan-01, EB3-India) I am currently in the TSC area. Is it possible to get the stamping done at a local office in TSC area. My approval notice says the local office under VSC (New Jersey). I called the Customer service and they said I can\'t. Is this true or they just misleading like always. I saw a lot of messages on people doing it. What am i supposed to do when I go for stamping. (like any extra paperwork). I still would like the paperwork to be sent to Vermont because of the faster time for plastic.
 
Yes, I stamped on passport at other than designated center.

I got 485 approval from VSC in Sept 2001. On approval notice it was mentioned to visit Newark, NJ INS. I visited San Francisco, California INS and got it stamped successfully. You can search on my userid "venkat97" and see the posting in this discussion board. Hope this helps.
