Can i get AP before hand

Hi
  i have just applied for my 485 . My lawer says i cannot leave the country till i get my AP(advance parole). Some body told me that i could get it by personally going to INS. Is it true?

I would appriciate it if you can tell me if there is any way to go to india and come back without having any legal problems with my 485 application.

If you have valid H1 you can travel with out AP. If your H1 expired you need to wait for you AP, which you only get after the I-485 receipt notice. You need to have valid recipt notice to go local INS to get AP.
