Can I file I-485 myself, with lawyers doing my I-140

Hi All,

For a concurrent filing of the I-140 and I-485 my lawyer has specified the following legal fees (these fees to DO NOT include filing fees):

3000 - I-140 preparation, completion and submission
200 - misc fees
750 - Request for Evidence Response (if applicable)

2000 - I-485 (fee do no include attorney fee for attending court hearings or USCIS interviews)
200 - misc fees
750 - I-485 for spouse
250 - 750 - Request for Evidence Response (if applicable)

My question is, can me and my spouse fill out each of our I-485s (Adjustment of status) ourselves and give it to our lawyer to file concurrently with the I-140? This will save us $3000 in legal fees. Is it a difficult form to fill out? It seems to be just 10 pages, 7 pages instructions and 3 pages form. Do people encounter problems in file the I-485 that can only be handled by a lawyer (i.e. what sort of "Request for Evidence Response" can I expect)?

thanks,

Sure, is the lawyer agrees, which I doubt he will because lawyers are too greedy. You can fila all yourself, which is feasible but challenging and time consuming. Filling out the actual paperwork is a piece of cake, but all the accompanying documents can be tricky.

you can file I-140 with lawyer first, non-concurrently, then later file I-485 yourself, after aproval of I-140, this is what I did for my family.
