Can I change my name?

Hi guys,

Since I am married for about 2 month ago, I am wondering if: can I change my name and to adopt my husband's last name????, I am asylee and I didn't apply for permanent resident yet, it will be next year, I asked a lawyer and she told me that I need to go to Social Security office with my marriage certification to change my name legally, but, in effect when I apply for my PR next year, can this situation afect my process? Also I read in the requirements for application you need to surrender any legal name changed since you are asylee. Thanks.

Are you principal or deravitive? I would advise to you to stick to your name until you become a citizen. You never know how long you are gonna stay around with your espouse. Good luck
