My company is a Indian contracting company which is sucking a lot. If there is no problem only, I\'d change job.

The day your GC is approved, that day your status changes. You can legally change jobs next day. Actual green card is just a formality.

You are no longer at mercy of INS and your rights to contest decisions by INS also are numerous.

Just make sure that your address remains same so you can receive the actual card. Go ahead and open your own company if you will.

Also this forum is for people who have yet to get green card and they have woes much greater than yours so kindly don\'t have your AFETR GREEN CARD discussions here.

Thre are a lot of discussions on this subject at the "after greencard" board here. But I would use caution since the employer sponsered u and if u can live with it for another 3-6months then u will not be quite free. in brief leaving a company is a grey area which has been complicated more by the 180days rule. some say u can switch if u have had 180 days after 485 filing. Kind of problems u might come under:
1. if ur employer is pissed off at you leaving and withdraws the i-140.
2. problem when and if u apply for citizenship.

I also got my GC one 3 weeks back and i am not planning on jumping for say a 10k raise/year. But if it is like 20k more then i might take a risk - work it out this way.

How can the problem affect applying for citizenship? Does anyone have any experience or hear of any such experience?

when u apply for citizenship your file is opened by the INS and is reviewed. if u are sponsered by your employer they ask for why you quit. so there is a chance that you might be charged for fraud or not being given the citizenship. (again if a lawyer represents you then he can talk them out of it).

I asked similar questions to my lawyer. Her answer was :

"INS and FBI will check your records under two cases - criminal investigation and adjudicaition of citizenship applications."

"Since GC is based on permanent employment for most of us, if we quit as soon as we get GC approval, when INS looks at your job records due above mentioned reasons, they might deny citizenship or worse still, they might revoke your GC. This is a gray area and no one know how INS is going to interpret it going forward (especially in light of the 180 days rule). "

Hope this is helpful. Pl. do not take this as legal advice. Check with a competant immigration lawyer.
