Hi,

I am planning to move after the oath and would like to know whether I can apply for passport after the move? I will be interviewed on Aug 6th and will be in a new state by Aug 20th.

I am planning to apply for my passport in the new location after settling there.

Let me know will this create any problem or issues.

Thanks

It does not matter if you move. Your passport is evidence of your citizenship, not the state of residence.

You can apply for a US passport anywhere in the US that has a post office or passport agency, regardless of where you naturalized or currently reside.

But you may have other problems -- August 20 is only 2 weeks after the interview. Your oath could be after you move. If you move to a new state before the oath, you'll have to transfer your case to the new state.

When I had my interview (St. Louis, MO), the IO told me that I could even apply for expedited (same day) passport in person if I go to Chicago, IL. I would need to provide a document proving the necessity of such haste with passport (e.g., international business trip to the Symposium, where I am not only a speaker, but a member of Organizing Committee). I was surprised that this could be done in the different State, but the IO told me that after naturalization this is possible to apply for passport not based on residence. This should apply to you as well, if you are lucky to have your oath before you move. Or you should maintain your address. One friend of mine worked on a contract in a different state, but had to travel "home" to her original state for interview, oath, and passport.

We have our interview early in the morning and our DO seems to have same day oath. If I am lucky, I can get the oath on the same day as well. I will decide upon my move based on the outcome of the interview only.

Thanks much for your reply.

Hello,
if apply passport at passport agency, would the naturalization certificate be returned at the same time you pick up your passport or certificate will be mailed back to you in a couple days?
Thank you!

They'll give you back the naturalization certificate at the same time that you pick up the passport.
