Can I apply for a re-entry permit with just the stamping in the passport?

Me and my wife got our GC stamping in the passport in nov 2001.Due to some personal matters my wife has to be in India for more
than one yr starting from june 2002.If we don\'t get the plastic card by that time can she apply for reentry permit and go to india.Will
she have to come back again in nov 2002 if by any chance we don\'t get plastic card by then.Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Since you are PR, you can apply for I131 (regardless of plastic).
