Infact technically speaking being on H1 and out of job means you are out of status hence need to leave the country...

Find a job as soon as possible apply for a new H1 don't even think in terms of employment benefits since you are exposing yourself to a much greater risk.

One of the requirements for getting unemployment benefits is "posession of unrestricted work authorization". That means h1, L1, etc. are ruled out. Only EAD, approved asylum/refugee status, green card and US citizenship are considered unrestricted employment authorization.
