Can GC holder start a company overseas?

I'd like to know if it's permitted for a GC holder to start a new company abroad, and/or to own a significant portion of such a company? Would it be viewed as breaking ties to US, and lack of intent to be a permanent resident?

What if this company is formed when the GC holder is physically abroad, while holding a re-entry permit?

Any one who can throw some light on this?
