Can F-1 students apply for government financial aid?

Hello,

My mother is a permanent resident and I'm an F-1 student in NY. When she applied for income tax, she included my name because she pays for my studies.

And I thought, since my name is on her income tax statement and I have a SSN, I might apply for financial aid?
Can I ?

There are status requirements. Although you may have a SSN, in most cases you do not qualify for federal aid limited to LPRs and USCs.
