Can child travel abroad with GC after parent is naturalized?

Hello.

Me and my kid from the previous marriage came to the US on spouse visa after I married an American citizen. We lived in the US for 3 years since then, and now I can apply for US citizenship. After I am naturalized, my child becomes a citizen. But it will be difficult for me to apply for US passport for him, since his father live in the other country, and we are not exactly friends. My question is if it will be possible for my child to travel abroad and reenter the US with his GC?

Thanks.

Do you have sole custody of the child? If so, you don't need the other parent's permission to apply for a passport. Or, if the child is at least 16, they can apply by themselves or with only 1 parent.

I have a decision from the court in my country, saying that the child should live with me and is allowed to leave to the US. Not sure if it can be translated as "sole custody".

Here it says things you can use include:
  • Court order granting sole legal custody to the applying parent (unless child’s travel is restricted by that order)
  • Court order specifically permitting applying parent’s travel with the child
I'm not sure whether what you describe fits, but it sounds like it might.
