Can anyone share more on the AC21 rules...

I google it a little and most of the online FAQ is written back in 2000-2002 where the AC21 rules are not that cleared as per their disclaimer. Are we having a more clear guideline/understandings after 6-7 years of practicing this law?

My question is simple... My GC is a future job offer, I planned to work for my sponsor company as soon as my EAD comes in (about 2 months from today) and would like to shop for more oppontinuity in the very near future like the end of this year where my I485 have filed more than 180 days. Can I do that? If so, how it works? and what forms and lead time I need to prepare myself?
 
My PD is going to become current in next month. Both 140 and 485 filled in Dec 2004. 140 approved in Jan 2005 and 485 is still pending. In June 2007 my company brought over by another company.

Is 140 amendment must be filled by the successor?
Do we have to file AC21 now or wait for RFE or interview?
If we don't file AC21 and assume that the 485 get approved in next month, does this become problem because as we are not working for the sponsoring company?
