Can someone, anyone, tell me why there are 3 to 4x the usual # of cases received on 5/20/04.

I was doing a scan of 5/20/04 cases for WantGCIn2005.
I don't know why, but 5/20/04 has 3 to 4x the normal number of 485 cases. Usually the number is between 140 and 220 (for the 4 different dates I have scanned so far), but I came up with 629 cases for this date.
Can you think of any reason for this unusually high number for this date? It was the week before Labor Day. But is that a good reason for the huge jump?

Thanks,

I cannot think of any theory behind this but one difference I noticed in my case compared to several others is that my receipt date and notice date are only 2 days apart, i.e. my RD was May 18 and ND was May 20, 2004. I saw in this forum that for some people they were almost 15 days apart.
USCIS increased their fees from May 1 2004 , and may be they piled up some applications and assigend ND some time later after they received it. Or there must be more number of applications after the first two weeks of May 2004.

WantGCIn2005,
You may be right. They must have piled up applications for a while when they increased(BTW- good catch) the fee.
It would be interesting to see if there was a lull in the beginning of May due to confusion.

I'll try to scan a couple of more dates in the beginning of May to see if #of applications indeed were less than usual.

Folks, if you have a preference to any particular date in the first 2 weeks of May'04, let me know.

USCIS official posting date shows as May 06, 2004. If you can scan for something like May 12 or 13 to see if they are going past the official processing dates , and another scan for May03 2004 (which is a monday, and after the fee was increased), then we can do some analysis why the application count was high on May 20.
That time I tried very hard with my lawyer to send the application before the fee was increased but due to their scrutiny and getting all the affidavits that didnot happen. Finally it ended up with ND May 20 2004.
Based on their processing dates, they must defenitely touch some of these cases in the next couple of weeks or a month.
Will they just leave the Transfered cases aside? WIll those cases be called for interviews?
Thanks!

Also, based on the statistics in immigrationwatch.com, the number of cases in May 2004 was less than that in March and April 2004. March 2004 had almost 800 more cases than May.
BTW, what is the source for this statistics? Who updates this web site? Any idea? Does the number reflect the actual number of cases that USCIS gets?
I appreciate if anybody can explain this.
Thanks.

One reason could be they have bunched up the applications. My Concurrent application was sent in Apr, RD 4/27/04, prior to fee increase. And for some reason it was not in the system till 5/20/04 the ND date, 3 weeks after they received. Do not know the process/criteria for updating the system?
Did you scan the I-140’s and I-485’s separately for 5/20/04.
