can a petitioning sponsor be substituted out even if still alive?

there is a sense of urgency on my question. my mom is scheduled for her GC interview in our native country next week as the sister of a US citizen. unfortunately my mom and her sister seem to have a falling out as my petitioning aunt said yesterday that she no longer wants to give my mom her affidavit of support which i think is needed during the interview. there is a provision in I-864 about substituting the sponsor but i understand this only applies in case of the petitioner's death (where the petitioner is also the financial sponsor). Me and my brother are now here in the US and are both gainfully employed. Can we "substitute out" our aunt with me and my brother being the substitute financial sponsors? are there forms to be filed before her interview? What other ways are available for us in such a short period? TNx.
