Can a I-485 be approved before a I-140?

My I-485 was just approved a few days ago(*) and I rec'd my EAD card. My I-140 and adj of status was filed together about 5 weeks ago and to my surprise I go the I-485 approval, however, I have not rec'd anything about my I-140. My understanding is that this goes to the company that filed and not me and I do not know the application number.

Does this mean I have my greencard? If so, am I out of the woods with portability issues? It seems to quick for all this to happen. I'm thrilled but just want to make sure I am not missing something. Is it possible that while my I-485 is approved my I-140 is not? Is there away to track down the case number using my A# or other app numbers (I485, EAD etc.)

The 140 approval goes to both ur company and your laywer.
I got my GC in 10/2006 but both my company and laywer didnt get 140 approval but we got 485 approval in mail. you can check with ur lawyer to see if she gets it. i still have my lawyer to follow up with USCIS customer service for my 140 status. still feel not complete even i already have card with me for more than 4 months.
hmmm, 5 weeks is very fast. let me know what you find out.
my laywer said it's only possible is they didnt update the system correctly.

Got FP for 485 but not RD for 140/765/131

I received ND (01/05/06) for FP (APT 01/20/06), but no sign of ND for either of 140/765/131. Is it normal?

No

Since the I-140 does not belong to you, using your A# will not help. The only way to get the I-140 receipt number is to ask your company or your lawyer.
