can 485 be approved for non-primary? pls help

We filed 485 in sep 2002.
I am the primary applicant and my 485 is pending Name checks now but my wife has finished all the formalities including name check.

Can somebody tell me if she can get 485 approved or does she have to wait until the primary gets approved. Can we request USCIS to approve her case?

have another friend in same boat the officer told wife although all her paperwork in order she cannot get GC until his is done
