I am ready to file my naturalization application. I called USCIS 800 number; and aksed if I need to mention my traffic speeding ticket on the application form where it asks for if you have ever been cited? The rep said that we do NOT need to mention minor traffic violations like speeding tickets. I called twice spoke to 2 different reps and both of them told me that it is NOT needed to mention speeding tickets.
Why is everybody making a big deal out of speeding tickets then? I USCIS trained reps say clearly that we are not needed to mention them - should we not go by their advice?
What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

That's what many people do. Many, including myself, have not indicated minor traffic violations in our applications.

Well, there have been posts where, at the interview, the IO looks at the "no citations" indication on the N-400 and says "what, you've never had a traffic citation?"

Also, on the post interview, pre-oath form, it asks "since your interview, have you had any citations (including traffic tickets)".

Not sure why it's such a big issue. I have had a ton of speeding tickets/warnings in the past. All through my immigration process it was never an issue at all. I think people just freak out thinking that all the past will come back and haunt them. Yes in the N-400 it states not to put down such things like minor traffic violations. So I don't understand it either...

Flydog - does the post interview pre-oath form say specifically "including traffic tickets"? Have you yourself seen it?

Thanks

It specifically says "including traffic tickets" or "including traffic offences". After hanging out on this forum, I was surprised.

Does anyone have a copy of the Oath letter handy (it's one of the questions on the back, that you are supposed to fill in on the morning of your oath and sign)?

I'm a USC now, so, yes, I have seen it myself (twice, once for my wife last May/June and for me last month).

Here is the exact wording

N-445: Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony said:
After the date when you were first interviewed on your Application for Naturalization, Form N-400:
...
Have you been arrested, cited, charged, indicted, convicted, fined or imprisoned for breaking or violating any law or ordinance, including traffic violations?

In the N-400, Question (D16) mentions:
Have you EVER been arrested, CITED etc....

It is a very clear question and there is no need to speculate here.
Answer should be Yes, if you have been Cited.
