Called INS for the first time today. My RD is OCtober 5th.
I called to get my address updated.
Guys i can now confirm what everyone else who has called up INS in the past have reported... The Lady IIO I talked to was very courteous and polite.:D
On a serious note, i asked her about whter i should go for my EAD renewal.

IIO : when is it expiring
Me: on Nov. 30 th.
IIO: It is a decision you have to make we cannot advise you on it. Though it would be touch and go. Maybe you can wait for another two more weeks, call us up again and then find out about the status of your case.

So that s it . She was reluctant to commit on whether my case has been taken for review but also wanted to hint me on waiting on my renewal. Anyways i have already send for my EAd renewal.

(She also told me clearly that if i send renewal fees they would not return it back. so all you guys who have got your approval but have send EAD renewal fees please forget about the money.)

she also told me that my case was entered in the system in Novemeber( My ND is nov. 23. I did not bother to correct her or ask for explanation.)
 
The answer from INS is reasonable

I am in the same situation. My RD data is Oct 3rd.
And EAD will expire in Nov.

Even though our files may being proceesed, but
who knows if there is RFE or whatever may happen.
It will take longer time to finally get approved.
RFE may take one or two months or longer.

The officer said is correct, wait another half
month to make the decision. If at time, you cannot
make sure, I think it is better to just apply one.

Same is the case with me.. my EAD is expiring around Nov 20th '02. and my I-485 date is Sept 5th. I am in a double mind to renew my EAD.

Why does the INS act in such a way of not telling upfront about our process statuses.

My lawyer is charging me $100 fees to put the paper work for the EAD renewal. He told me straight up that I maybe in trouble of working in USA if the EAD is not renewed asap.

I don't know what's to be done. Should I wait for the approval to come thru or renew my EAD?

How long can one wait before they can send out the forms and checque for EAD renewal.?

Please advise.?

My lawyer has charged me 150.00 dollars for EAD renewal. I have still gone through with it as your lawyer is right. In case of EAD you cannot work with the receipt notice (As is in case of H1) you need to have the EAD in your hand., so it is better to spend this money and have peace of mind .
 
You can apply EAD renewal by yourself. It's very simple and easy. Why should you pay $100 to lawyer. I did by myself.

I know even I am renewing it... but wanted to know if I can push my luck a wee bit.. sort of wait for the Audit getting over then call and ask about my l-485 approval status.

Secondly, I heard that one requires the receipt no of EAD. It's not needed to have the card itself ( it maybe wrong info ).

Please advise....
