Talked to a lady IIO on 7/31/02 at 10:30am.

She said my case is "pending" , might take another 30-90 days before they make a decision. She declined to say if it is assigned to an officer or not. My EAD expires on 10/10/02, I asked her if I should renew it, She said wait for another 30 days.

I have the same RD and ND as yours. FP was 1/31/02.
I called IIO two weeks back and she said that my file (+ my wife) is in staging area and an officer can pick it up any time ??
My EAD expires on 10/30. IIO said that she can't suggest anything about EAD renewal and it is entirely my decision. So I have asked my Lawyers to renew it.

Thanks for sharing your info. I live in Boston area and my lawyer said I can walk-in to Boston INS office and renew EAD. I got my EAD last year same way, it took only an hour. I will wait till Sep 1st and then go to Boston office to renew EAD.

Please check with the Local INS Office on issuance of EAD.
Some offices have stopped this procedure ( Eg. Pittsburgh)
Some Lawyers are ignorant of this.

Someone recently (July 2002) received EAD from Boston INS office, so I guess they still continue that process

According to murthy.com, Boston and Kansas City are one of the few field offices that issue EAD based on I-485 receipt notice.

Attorney Murthy : No, there is no premium processing available for EADs. Some local INS offices like Boston and Kansas City allow a person to show the I-485 receipt and obtain the EAD right away. See if your local office will expedite the EAD based on an employer letter explaining the urgent reasons they cannot wait.
 
How long does it normally take to get EAD? My EAD expires on Nov 27, 2002. RD: 8/03 ND: 9/25

I spoke to an IIO last week, he said my application is in the staging process and can be picked up any time. Also once the application is picked up and if all the papers are in place the case may be approved very soon.

When asked about EAD renewal the lady said I should wait for 30 days before applying. The pevious when I called the guy I spoke to said I should go ahead and apply for EAD renewal. I think I will wait for another 15-20 days

Can I renew my EAD in Boston? What's the procedure? I don't live in Boston, will still be able to get renewed in Boston?
 
If you live within the jurisdiction of Boston INS office you may renew your EAD there. This includes city of Boston and its suburbs. They issue EAD same day.
Just walk-in there with necessary papers and you should be all set.
