unless she is trying to take advanage of you, try to reconcile the marriage.

i agree we are trying to become american's, but even the church, doesn't beleive in divorce.
the basis of hinduism is to forgive any previous issues and work out differences. i am not in your shoe, so it may be unfair on my part to comment.

every marriage, including love marriages go thru issues and the beauty of a marriage, is in working thru issues and forgiving the mistakes and trying to understand the other person.

In the US the state provides the "license" to marry and the state is the final authority on the dissolution of marriage and this applies to the parties living in the US or at least if one is living in the US or if they were married in the US but not living here. This is applicable regardless of the religeon of the parties to the marriage. Once a license is issued marriage can take place in a civil ceremony (court) or religious.

I don't think the US courts will recognize hindu marriage act for applying to a court in the US. If you get a divorce outside the US that is fine. But from the feedback of posters who went through divorce in India the police are corrupt and the courts do not allow divorce if both parties do not agree. So why are you keen to get divorce in India?

brb2: if the marriage is done outside of US? will US courts even entertain a divorce application, especially since I am still indian citizen on green-card
