Byrd Amendment defeated - Unconfirmed !!

Guys and Gals,

I just read on some sites that the Byrd amendment to remove immigration relief from the bugdet bill has been defeated. I cannot confirm this but if this is true then it is a major victory and we are one step closer to getting some relief.

regards,

I hope this is also an indication the senate direction in finally passing this.

Now we have to look forward to the house.
I think this is probably the most important bill for all of us on this forum as it could potentially make a difference of 2-3 years in the cut off dates.
Lets keep up the emails and phones to senators/ congressmen on this. But I think its the employers who canmake a big difference.
Most big US employers have associations for minorities and other groups etc. I think we should make one for prospective immigrants and push our employers for supporting these reforms.

Confirmed

Senate site reports it confirmed. However, the votes are not yet published. Should be up soon.

WHen will the House vote on this. Does anyone know?
The House of Representatives are at loggerheads with the House of Senate. For example, Senate recommended only $750 increase for L1 visas wheres the Reps are adamant about a whopping increase of $1500. Those are clashes that both the houses need to resolve before it goes for the vote at both the houses.

After that, if the bill passes both houses, will be tabled to the President for signature. At that point it becomes the law. While most of the "good" things like visa allocation, recapture etc. will come into vogue several months later, any visa increase will come into vogue before the ink dries! That's how it has been hitherto. This won't be any different.

we all know next week anything

Hi guys
Here some news I found, sharing with u all

S. 1932 Reconciliation Bill including Immigration Packet which Senate Judiciary Had Passed

At. 05:51 p.m. (est), the full Senate passed S. 1932 after defeating Byrd Amendment. On the House side, the House Budget Committee just passed the House version of the appropriation bill which is scheduled to the full House action next week. The difference between the House bill and the Senate bill will be resolved thereafter at the conference committee. Please stay tuned!

Man, that's great!! I guess all the letters, faxes, calls an emails made some effect.
