My attorney through employer is causing me some grief filing derivative application. Is it an option to file this myself or through outside attorney...Has someone done this before..Are there any risks involved in filing 485 derivative petition without the knowledge of the employer.

You can file your own. Applying for derivative is not all that difficult. In fact you don't need any document from your employer (don't why your attorney is troubling you). You will get some filing info from http://www.immihelp.com

Attorney of the employer need not be involved if he is causiing trouble to you.

You can file on your own or if you are concerned and can afford to spend some money then you can choose other attorney also. I-485 is a petition on your behalf as an individual and employer is not involved in this. All the information is pertaining to the individual and his status. Don't worry much and file it.
