Buying time in I-485

What are permissible ways to buy time while in the I-485 process? This is a little weird a question for a forum where everyone needs I-485s adjudicated ASAP :)

I'm trying to avoid the FTJ track for my wife, who is only able to join me in Nov '04 - Feb '05 due to J1/HRR restrictions. Of course, there is no indication that my I-485 would be adjudicated by then. However, just in case, what are possible steps I can take to postone the adjucation? I assume, the worst(best) I could do would be to withdraw the I-485 case.

My I-140/I-485s were filed in Sept '03. I-140 was approved in Feb '04. My H1 status is valid and expires by the end of 2005. The I-485 case hasn't been touched since the RD, no FPs done either.

What is RD/ND? Delaying FP/second FP is one solution. You can delay up to 12 weeks I guess. I

Other then that if you get an RFE you can delay the response.

After your I485 there is no control over the process or its speed. But very common way to buy time is delaying FP (if you have not done already).

Another option is delaying RFE reply, if there is any RFE. But you might not get any RFE at all.

Thanks, tammy2

The RD for both the I-140 and I-485 is 09/04/03. I don't have ND information handy.

Pralay,
I haven't done my FP1 yet.
For how long do you think one can delay/reschedule fingerprinting w/o any negative impact on the case?

Thanks everyone of your help!

DUPLICATE 140 approvals

Hello freinds:
any suggestion as to which 140 approval one should base thier 485 on. In my case i have 2 approvals of 140 for OR as well as NIW.

How long? I have no idea. Normally when ask to reschedule your FP, you will get rescheduled date 2-3 months down the line. I don't know how many times you can reschedule. I guess you can do showing some rgood eason (like hand injury etc). The only nagative impact is that your case will be delayed. That's what you want, right?

Or Convert to CP

Or try to convert to CP... Then it wll take some time for the INS to send your documents. And then you can schedule the interview at the consulte at your convenience.
Also you can switch back to 485 again :D Beleive me after all of this you will beg INS to process your case faster :D :D

It is usually 13 weeks time.
When we did our Finger printing. The scheduled date for my finger Printing was October 2. But there was clear message on FP notice that if we miss that we should do our Finger printing on any Wednesday or Saturday before 28 of December. I did my Finger Printing on December 19.

In Some offices you may need to reschedule the FP. But in our case we did not reschedule the FP. We just went on December 19. Refer to FP notice. It will be written on that.
