Bush plan lets illegal workers keep jobs

This has been expected for some time. It is going to be very interesting to see how far they are willing to go. There is a thin line between appealing to the latino swing vote with immigration liberalization and alienating the hard core conservatives.

Most likely the initiative will be just another propaganda stunt similar to the infamous "all applications are to be processed in 6 months" promises.

On the other hand the sheer size of the illegal worker population (10 million) would force any politician to think twice before ignoring its existence.

Given that the illegals suck up resources (hospitals, schools etc.) and not pay taxes is not a matter that the American voters will tolerate. So my guess is that legalizing some illegals in some manner or other eventually will become law. Given the way how the current government operates (my way or highway) I am sure this will happen before election time. I only wish that this proposal doesn’t screw us.

Ofcourse it is going to screw us

Where will they get the resources to process these new applications? Even if they are allocated some money, hiring and training new resources will take time. And I am sure Bush want's to show some kind of progress before elections, which means re-assinging existing resources.

I feel our situation is only going to get worse.
