British with American father discovered after adoption

Hi all,

Little tricky one here maybe:
I'm 37 year old British born , currently living in Australia with my Australian wife under the Defacto visa.
I'm adopted and recently found my birth father who is American, we've had the DNA test etc.
What is my right to entry/citizenship to America please?
Can I get a US passport, if so what is the procedure?
What does my birth father have to do?
Does my wife have any rights to anything as well? Is so, what?
Who do I talk you in Melbourne, Australia? Or is it somewhere else?

Lots of questions which I think i'm beginning to understand but then discovered this forum.

Would love your help, thanks
Eddie

Adoption generally severs all immigration benefits that are based on one's biological parents.

However, if you met all the necessary criteria for obtaining US citizenship through your father before you were adopted, adoption wouldn't take that away.

You'll have to provide more information so we can try to figure out your eligibility.

Was your mother a US citizen when you were born? Was your father married to your biological mother when you were born, or before you were adopted? What was the level of your father's involvement in your life before your adoption?
